ON Retires Legacy Toncoin Bridge Following Launch of New Cross-Chain Solution
Following the successful phase-out of jUSDT, we’re officially retiring the Toncoin Bridge.
Starting May 10, 2025, users will no longer be able to bridge Toncoin from TON to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain. However, all past transfers to these chains will remain claimable after this date.
Bridging Toncoin into TON will continue to function for now, with a sunset date to be announced later.
Why We’re Retiring the Bridge
The Toncoin Bridge was crucial during TON’s early development—before centralized exchange (CEX) listings, decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities, and native USDT support.
Back then, the only way for users to trade Toncoin was to bridge it to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain, and then swap it on platforms like Uniswap or PancakeSwap.
Even after CEX listings, the bridge remained the main tool for accessing decentralized exchanges (DEXs) before they became available on TON. Eventually, it also became a gateway for wrapped assets like jUSDT.
But TON has grown significantly since then.
Today, TON is connected to top-tier cross-chain solutions such as LayerZero, Stargate, Symbiosis, and Rhino.fi. With USDt-TON, active DEXs, and an expanding DeFi ecosystem, there’s no longer a need to leave the network to use assets.
Sunsetting the Bridge:
- Enhances user safety by retiring outdated infrastructure
- Promotes the use of modern, scalable cross-chain technologies
- Marks TON’s transition into a more mature and self-sustaining ecosystem
